Hi. I’m Stephen Trusheim. I’m an optimistic AI guy. Hot take: computers are about to make humans a lot more human. That’s great news! But it’s also really bad news. Since I’d like the world to be better, not worse, I make products that make the world better. And as an investor, I love helping others do the same.
Right now, I’m working on new ideas… stay tuned!
Previously, I was the co-founder & CEO of Tome, the world’s first AI-powered law firm — later acquired by AngelList. We built AI that reliably answers common legal questions, especially questions like: “is this contract standard?” I started Tome because it’s blatantly unfair that big businesses can easily afford $1,000/hour lawyers, and small businesses have to rely on … nothing? ChatGPT? We had the deepest domain expertise in startup-related legal questions, and today our technology powers the world’s largest startup investment platform.
Before that, I was Partner & Head of Operations at SignalFire, where I helped build the firm 0→ 1. SignalFire is the world’s first AI-powered venture capital firm: we use AI & brains to find excellent founders, then accelerate their company development. As a Partner, I helped build our AI systems, turned the predictive filters up to 11, and simply invested in those companies. As the Head of Operations, I ran the back office of our SEC-Registered Investment Adviser from $0 to $3 billion in AUM, managing operations, legal, finance, audit, and compliance across 35 funds. For a few glorious years, I was one of the most active deal-makers in Silicon Valley, usually “bad cop” as we executed more than 650 investments.
I hold B.S. and M.S. degrees in AI from Stanford University, where I graduated with the Outstanding Achievement Award and the James W. Lyons Award for Service. I’ve served on the Federal Reserve Task Force on Faster Payments, on multiple non-profit boards, and as a concert promoter. Back when I was younger and more foolish, I was named Forbes 30 Under 30, and (separately) awarded an iron-rich main-belt asteroid — conveniently located just past Mars.
