Hi. It’s me, Stephen Trusheim. I’m an optimistic AI guy. Here’s my hot take: AI enables every human to be even more human. If good humans control the AI, that’s amazing news; if bad humans control the AI, it’s historically awful news. I want to make the world better, more free, and more open; and work with some incredible people who want the same. I sometimes write on Twitter, and for some reason that makes everybody really angry.
Professionally, I’m the co-founder of a stealth startup — stay tuned :)
Previously, I was the co-founder & CEO of Tome, the world’s first AI-powered commercial legal service. We used AI to reliably answer common legal questions, especially questions like “is this contract standard?” I started Tome because I think that “contracts” should be straightforward for everyone, yet today’s legal system represents… well, whatever’s the opposite of a level playing field. The tech worked great. I led the company through its acquisition by AngelList, the world’s largest VC investment management platform.
Before that, I was Partner & Head of Operations at SignalFire, where I helped build the firm 0→1. SignalFire is the world’s first AI-powered venture capital firm: we use AI & brains to find exceptional founders, then we use AI & brains to accelerate their success. As a Partner, I built our AI systems, then I cranked the predictive filters up to 11, then I invested in those companies. As the Head of Operations, I also built and ran the back office of our SEC-Registered Investment Adviser from $0 to $3 billion+ in AUM, managing operations, legal, finance, audit, and compliance as we raised 35 funds and closed 650+ investments.
I hold B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science (AI) from Stanford University, from where I graduated with the Outstanding Achievement Award and the James W. Lyons Award for Service. I’m most proud that I “revived” Frost Amphitheater, creating the “first bona fide rock concert since the ‘80s” (Stanford Magazine), now an annual tradition. Since then, I’ve served on the Federal Reserve Task Force on Faster Payments, worked with my favorite nonprofits, and promoted lots of concerts.
Back when I was younger and more foolish, I was named Forbes 30 Under 30, and (separately) awarded an iron-rich main-belt asteroid, 25483 Trusheim — located, for your convenience, just past Mars.
